light vs line is a series of photographic portraits of Australian alternative comic artists, taken by Anna Brown. Each portrait is paired with an illustrated self portrait by the subject.
As an artist I spend my time creatively divided between the mediums of photography and comics: Drawing with light, drawing with line. This project and these heroes bring together these two mediums as the portraits sit side by side – face to face –and offer a new perspective, a comparison.
The pairings allow an interplay between my photographic representation and their own illustrated representation. They show how I have drawn them with light, and how they draw themselves with line.

This is a collaborative and continuing project which began in the Summer of 2010. Beginning in January 2011, a different portrait set will be published online fortnightly for the duration of the project.
